Cocoon Infrared Sauna Therapy FAQ

In today’s hectic world, we are exposed to a multitude of toxins that break us down from within. We are all exposed to hundreds of chemicals every day in the air we breathe, the items we touch, and the food and drinks we consume. Our body chemistry and DNA is altered, and our inner energy fields are affected to the point of damaging critical parts of the very detox systems (such as liver enzymes) that are supposed to detoxify them. By implementing  the use of an infrared sauna session into your weekly routine you can help your body rid itself of these devastating toxins.

Infrared light is the invisible part of the Sun’s spectrum, which has the ability to easily penetrate human tissue. When this happens, it creates a natural resonance, which has many beneficial properties. You can be exposed to far infrared heat for hours, and it will never cause your skin to burn. Far infrared heat is completely healthy and safe for all living things. In fact, it is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants. And unlike sunbathing, infrared heat therapy will never expose you to dangerous solar radiation.

Pregnant women should not sweat (although it’s safe after the baby is born!). If you have a chronic condition that makes you sensitive to temperature, we recommend checking with your doctor before booking a session. We recommend checking with your doctor if you have recently had an injury and/or undergone surgery.

If you have haemophilia, we do not recommend sweating.

If you are on any medications, please check with your doctor (especially if you are on blood thinners).

If you have been advised to stay away from heat or have any concerns regarding medical conditions, please talk to your doctor.

There are no risks associated with sweating for individuals with average health. If you are worried, please consult your doctor before booking a sweat.

Unlike traditional saunas, Infrared Saunas penetrate your body at a cellular level, while traditional saunas only heat the surrounding air. By penetrating human tissue deep below the skin, radiant heat activates an abundance of natural healing properties. Infrared heat has been found seven times more effective than traditional saunas at detoxifying the body.

Metal pins, rods, artificial joints or any other surgical implants generally reflect infrared waves and thus are not heated by this system. Nevertheless, you should consult your physician prior to using an infrared sauna.

Far Infrared Saunas are a healthy weight loss solution without exercising. Infrared Saunas burn 400-600 calories in just one 35-minute session. In a Far Infrared Sauna, a moderately fit person can lose 450 grams of sweat in a 30-minute session; the equivalent of running 2-3 miles.

Infrared saunas have been proven to aid in weight loss by heating your core temperature and increasing metabolic rate. Increases in blood flow and heart rate are a result, which, much like moderate exercise, helps you burn calories.

Yes, and this will be regained upon hydration. But the calories you burned are real!

This is different for each individual! We recommend 1-3 sessions per week.

It could take up to an hour for you to return to your regular body temperature (one plus is you are still burning calories while this cool down is taking place).

This deep layer heating causes blood vessels and capillaries to dilate for better circulation. It will go away on its own within a few hours.

We only allow one 40-minute session per day.

Only those who are sweating can be in the room during sauna sessions. We also cannot have children left unattended in the lobby at any time. Please make alternative arrangements for childcare if you will be coming in to sweat.

Depending on the type of program you have opted for (e.g., relaxation, pain relief, weight loss) you will either be in your birthday suit or we provide you with a ‘bunny sweat suit’.

We recommend bringing a bottle of water and deodorant.  We provide towels to dry yourself off with after your session.

Please make sure that you are hydrated and have eaten something. We advise against sweating on an empty stomach, but also not arriving immediately after a heavy meal.

Drinking plenty of water is a top priority. We want you to feel your best. Our bodies need plenty of water to function optimally. When you sweat, your body uses water to flush out toxins and other waste, the more water you have to use, the more productive your sweat session will be. It is also important to replenish the water your sweat out!

Our standard session is 40 minutes. If you make a session too long, your body has to work harder than it really needs to, without an increase in benefits.

For your first session, we recommend arriving 5-10 minutes before your appointment. You will be required to fill out a New Client Information Form, sign a Release Form and read over the Contraindications Sheet.

You can call us and book an appointment over the phone or use our online booking system.

We do accept walk-ins. However, we recommend that you book an appointment to guarantee your spot.

Yes, they are. You will be in the privacy of your own comfortable room.

Although you cannot be in the sauna with someone else, we do have two saunas. Call us to book in!

  • Infrared heat can be used by itself or used in combination with dry heat.
  • The temperature is displayed and adjustable to your own comfort level.
  • The massage bed is contoured to provide the most comfortable fit for your body while delivering an even vibration to all parts of the body.
  • The vibration massage bed has customised massage vibration settings.  These adjustable pulsating rhythms range from rapid strokes to long and deep waves.
  • A continuous stream of adjustable cool air flows lightly upon your face, which makes it more tolerable while still getting the benefits on your face.
  • A Himalayan pure ionic crystal salt tile is applied to the intake fan for clean and refreshing  pure salt-air.
  • The aroma cup system gives you a choice of aromatic essential oils to flow over your face.
  • Clients who suffer from asthma and other respiratory issues are able to use the pod.
  • The session time is shorter because it doesn’t take as long to heat since it is a small space.

We actually recommend not showering immediately after your session as you continue to sweat out toxins. If you still choose to, we recommend only a very quick hot shower to allow your pores to stay open.

Yes, we provide clean towels and sanitise the pod after every client/use. Infrared light also kills all bacteria and any airborne germs or fungus. Many medical devices are sanitised using infrared light. We pride ourselves with keeping a clean and relaxing environment.

We use a non-toxic cleaner after each sweat session. We also replace all towels, so your sweat doesn’t touch anyone, and you don’t touch anybody else’s.

The first twenty minutes of your sweat session will feel warm and cosy. Most people feel extremely relaxed, maybe even sleepy. The last 10 minutes of the session are more challenging. In that time, your heart rate will likely increase, and you will notice that you are sweating much more.

Immediately after your session you may feel like you just finished a workout, however 30 minutes later you will feel refreshed and rested. You may feel a boost in your energy and mood. Oh, and get ready to sleep like a baby that evening! Keep in mind- just like a workout, some sweats will feel better than others.

Be sure to replenish the water you sweat out during your session. We recommend waiting 30 minutes before showering and putting on any lotions, liquids, creams, etc. until your pores close up.

Yes it will. Infrared heat benefits happen because your core temperature rises and is not based on where the sauna is covering you.

Our latest appointment is 45 minutes prior to closing or by prior arrangement.

Everyone is different, and this is also true for sweating. We all sweat different amounts. For most people, it takes a few sessions to acclimate to the detoxifying process. Also, the more hydrated you are, the better you will sweat.

It is not recommended to sweat while pregnant. However, it is a great way to recover and show your body some love post baby.

Please do not make any phone calls or Face Time during your sweat session. Please make sure cell phones are on silent.

We do have spa music that plays in each suite with a volume control. If you wish to listen to your own music, please bring headphones.

Pets are not allowed. If you have a service dog, please contact us prior to your appointment to make arrangements.

Most clients find that they do not feel claustrophobic during their session. Your head is out the entire time, and you can push the dome up to as far as you need to feel comfortable. If you are claustrophobic, please share your concerns with us, and we will do everything we can to make sure that you remain comfortable during your session.

Many of our female clients find that sweating is a great way to help reduce cramps and balance their hormones. However, please keep in mind that sweating may increase menstrual flow, so if you already experience heavy bleeding, you may not want to sweat on your period.

Please check with your doctor prior to sweating if you are taking any medication.

The melting point of silicon is far higher than the temperature of our infrared beds, so sweating has no effect on them. However, with that being said, please reach out to your doctor if you have any concerns.

Many clients who suffered from migraines find that regular sweat sessions greatly improve their condition.

Many clients, who suffer from allergies, have reported that their allergies have lessened as a result of regular sweating. Please talk to your doctor if you are concerned in any way.

If you have a fever, it is not recommended to sweat. Infrared heat does help increase your immunity, so when you feel better, we do recommend a sweat session!

Please contact your doctor if you have had surgery in the past 12 months before sweating.

We do have a complimentary water station in the reception area along with other refreshing beverages available for purchase such as kombucha and kefir water.
