What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy (also known as colonic irrigation or colonics) is a relaxing, gentle experience which involves the continual bathing of the colon by the infusion of filtered, temperature regulated water into the rectum. No chemicals or drugs are used, and all equipment is of the highest quality, TGA approved and fully disposable (singular use), to ensure safe sanitary practice.
Colon hydrotherapy requires a safe, reliable and efficient machine which has been designed specifically for that purpose. At Acqua Health we use the Colon Hydromat, which is manufactured by Hermann Apparatebau GmbH, in Germany, and is considered by many to be the best available. The therapy is conducted by a fully trained, certified and insured Registered Nurse / Colon Hydrotherapist who ensures that your modesty is preserved at all times.
A standard colon hydrotherapy session lasts approximately 45 minutes. There are no offensive smells or mess to worry about. It is very safe as the water is introduced at low pressure, so there is no danger of bowel perforation. A small disposable speculum is inserted into the patient’s rectum, this has one small inlet tube, which runs the warm filtered water into the colon, and one outlet tube which is attached to the colon hydrotherapy machine. The water flow triggers a response in which the patient begins to expel the water and waste through a tube that allows the therapist to monitor the expelled bowel contents. This response is known as peristalsis, which is a normal pattern of smooth muscle contractions that propel foodstuffs through the digestive tract.
During the treatment, the therapist gently massages the patient’s abdomen to help dislodge impacted matter. Although this process is sometimes uncomfortable, it’s not painful. It is also very interesting to watch what is expelled, through the viewing tube on the machine, just to see how congested you really are.
Colon Hydrotherapy is often seen as a modern treatment made popular by celebrities in recent times, but in fact cleansing of the digestive system dates back to Egyptian times, is referred to in the Bible and promoted by Hippocrates. Modern colon hydrotherapy is the most effective method of bowel cleansing. The foods we eat and the way we live our 21st-century life can be at odds with nature, so we need to ensure our digestive system is well looked after.

About Your Colon
The colon or large intestine is part of the alimentary canal. It is 1.5 meters in length and is a hollow, tube-like organ that is situated at the end portion of the human digestive tract. This is where the final stages of digestion, absorption, and elimination take place.
The colon carries out a number of vital functions, it eliminates waste, conserves water and absorbs electrolytes and minerals. Waste material (impacted faeces, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, chemical residue, etc) that has remained there for some time can pose health problems. These poisons can enter the blood stream, making us feel weak, tired, or ill.
Impacted materials can also impair the colon’s ability to assimilate minerals and cause an abundance of bad bacteria and yeast. A build-up of material on the large intestine wall can also inhibit muscular action, causing sluggish bowel movements, slow transit time and constipation. Colon Hydrotherapy can greatly alleviate this congestion and is a safe, effective method for ridding the system of waste.
